Subject as otherwise provided, the profits of a property business1 are calculated in the same way as the profits of a trade2. However, deductions in relation to the costs of a dwelling-related loan in calculating the profits of a property business are restricted to the basic rate of income tax for individuals, partnerships and certain trustees (such restrictions being phased in between the tax years 2017–18 and 2020–21)
