A person requires a firearms certificate1 or a certificate for possession of shotguns2 in order to own a rifle or shotgun3 for sporting purposes. Pistols4 are prohibited weapons5 and may not be owned without the authority of the Secretary of State6. A person may use a firearm for sporting purposes without a certificate if under the instruction of a person who holds a relevant certificate
