A football banning order1 is an order which may be made in respect of a person, either on conviction of an offence2 or otherwise3, prohibiting that person from attending regulated football matches4 and requiring him instead to report to a police station5. However, a person who is subject to a banning order may, either as respects a particular regulated football match or as respects regulated football matches played during a period, apply to the exempting authority6 to be exempt from the requirement of the order7 as respects that match or matches played during that period8, and the exempting authority
