Transfers of players between clubs are contractual and are governed by the normal rules of contract1. Where contractual clauses in a contract of employment impinge upon the ability of a player to transfer from one club to another and are unilaterally for the benefit of one party to the contract, for example unilateral options to extend the contract, they may be considered unenforceable and invalid by those bodies regulating transfers
