The Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS)1 is required to maintain two lists, referred to as the children's barred list and the adult's barred list2, for the purpose of regulating access to children and vulnerable adults and controlling the activities of barred persons3. Where a person has been convicted of, or cautioned in relation to, a specified sexual or violent offence4 the DBS must include him in the appropriate barred list5
