The United Nations has adopted extensive human rights treaties which are binding on those states which ratify them, including the Slavery Convention 1926¹, the Genocide Convention 1948², the Convention relating to the Status of Refugees 1951³, the Convention Relating to the Status of Stateless Persons 1954⁴, and the Convention on the Suppression and Punishment of the Crime of Apartheid 1973
