For the purpose of conducting investigations in accordance with Part X of the Pension Schemes Act 19931 or any corresponding legislation having effect in Northern Ireland2 there is a commissioner known as the Pensions Ombudsman3.
The Pensions Ombudsman is appointed by the Secretary of State4 and holds and vacates office upon such terms and conditions as the Secretary of State may think fit5. The Pensions Ombudsman may resign or be removed from office in accordance with those terms and conditions6.
The Pensions Ombudsman may (with the approval of the Secretary of State as to numbers) appoint such persons to be employees7
