Consumer protection is supported by several agencies including, for example, the Pensions Regulator, the Pensions Ombudsman, and the Pensions Advisory Service (now part of the Money and Pensions Service). Managing a pension fund is often a regulated activity within the meaning of the Financial Services and Markets Act 20001: establishing, operating or winding up a stakeholder pension scheme2 and establishing, operating or winding up a personal pension scheme3 are both specified kinds of activity4 and are regulated activities when carried on in relation to property of any kind5.
