205. Pension schemes and consumer protection: general.

Various aspects of consumer protection apply to pension schemes. Consumer protection is supported by several agencies including, for example, the Pensions Regulator, the Pensions Ombudsman, and the Pensions Advisory Service (now part of the Money and Pensions Service). Managing a pension fund is often a regulated activity within the meaning of the Financial Services and Markets Act 20001: establishing, operating or winding up a stakeholder pension scheme2 and establishing, operating or winding up a personal pension scheme3 are both specified kinds of activity4 and are regulated activities when carried on in relation to property of any kind5.
