Where membership of the House of Lords is not at issue (that is, where the claimant has no interest in standing for election to the House of Lords under the by-election procedure1), the procedure on a claim by right to a peerage of England, Scotland, Great Britain or the United Kingdom2 is begun by application to the Lord Chancellor3 for entry on the Roll of the Peerage4. The application is made in a similar manner to those applications made before the passing of the House of Lords Act 1999
