A notice of any of the following transactions, instruments and events must be entered in the register of patents1 as soon as practicable after it occurs or, if later, when the application is published2:
(1) the assignment of a patent or application for a patent, or a right in it3;
(2) the mortgage of a patent or application or the granting of security over it4;
(3) the grant or assignment or mortgage of a licence or sub-licence under a patent or application5;
(4) the death of the proprietor or one of the proprietors of any such patent or application
