633. Meaning and function of 'patent agent'.

Any individual, partnership or body corporate may carry on the business of acting as agent for others for the purpose of:

  1.  

    (1)     applying for or obtaining patents, in the United Kingdom or elsewhere1; or

  2.  

    (2)     conducting proceedings before the comptroller2 relating to applications for, or otherwise in connection with, patents3.

Such an individual, partnership or body corporate is subject to the statutory provisions regulating providers of legal services4. These provisions do not, however, affect any restriction under the European Patent Convention
