The provisions of the Patent Co-operation Treaty relating to publication1, search2, examination3 and amendment4, and not those of the Patents Act 1977, apply to an international application for a patent (UK)5 during the international phase of the application6.
The international phase of the application means the period from the filing of the application in accordance with the Treaty until the national phase of the application begins7. The national phase of the application begins:
(1) when the prescribed period8 expires, provided any necessary translation of the application into English has been filed at the UK Intellectual Property Office9 and the prescribed
