An international application1 must contain a request, a description of the invention, one or more claims, one or more drawings where required, and an abstract2. The request must contain:
(1) a petition to the effect that the international application be processed according to the Patent Co-operation Treaty3;
(2) the designation of the contracting state or states ('designated states') in which the applicant desires protection4 and, if a regional patent5 is available for any designated state, whether the applicant desires a regional patent6;
(3) the name of and other prescribed data concerning the applicant and his agent, if any7; and
