The European Patent Convention1 makes provision for a European patent to be limited by a post-grant amendment of the claims at the request of the proprietor2. Any decision to limit the European patent takes effect in all the contracting states in which the patent has been granted3. When considering whether or not to grant the request to limit the patent, the European Patent Office4 must first examine whether the requirements laid down in the Implementing Regulations have been met5
