238. Name requirements for limited liability partnerships.

The name of a limited liability partnership ('LLP')1 must end with the expression 'limited liability partnership', or the abbreviation 'llp' or 'LLP' (or the Welsh equivalents)2. It is an offence for a person to carry on a business under a name or title which includes as the last words these expressions or any contraction or imitation of them, unless that person is a limited liability partnership or oversea limited liability partnership3.

The statutory restrictions and prohibitions on company names are applied to limited liability partnerships4. An LLP must not be registered under the Limited Liability Partnerships Act 2000 by a
