When the House of Commons is sitting and a seat becomes vacant by reason of the death of a member, or for any other cause1, the House, upon motion made2, orders the Speaker to issue his warrant empowering the Clerk of the Crown in Chancery or the Clerk of the Crown in Northern Ireland, as the case may be, to make out a new writ to fill the vacancy3.
