892.     Origin of privileges of Parliament.

The privileges of Parliament are based upon the law and custom of Parliament, that is, practice and precedents, to be found in the Rolls of Parliament and the journals of the two Houses, and to a lesser extent upon certain statutes which have been passed from time to time for the purpose of making clear particular matters in which the privileges claimed by either House of Parliament have come into conflict with the prerogatives of the Crown, with the courts or with the rights of individuals1.
