The Compliance Officer1 may conduct an investigation under the Parliamentary Standards Act 2009 if he has reason to believe that a member of the House of Commons may have been paid an amount under the MPs' allowances scheme that should not have been allowed2. The investigation may be conducted on the Compliance Officer's own initiative, at the request of the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority ('IPSA')3, at the request of the member, or in response to a complaint by an individual4.
