Natural England, in relation to England, or the Natural Resources Body for Wales, in relation to Wales1, must notify any local planning authority2 of any limestone pavement3 in that authority's area4. Where it appears to the Secretary of State or the Welsh Ministers5, or the relevant authority6, that the character or appearance of any land so notified would be likely to be adversely affected by the removal of the limestone or by its disturbance in any way whatever, an order (a 'limestone pavement order') may be made designating the land and prohibiting the removal or disturbance of limestone on
