The council of a county, county borough, or district has power to establish, or secure the provision of, nature reserves1 on any land2 in its area which is not already held by or managed in accordance with an agreement entered into with the appropriate conservation body3 as to which it appears to the council expedient that it should be managed as a nature reserve4.
A local authority5 establishing a nature reserve has the same powers of entering into agreements, acquiring land and all the other powers that are conferred upon the appropriate conservation
