Where the permission1 of an authority2 is needed before operations may be carried out, the authority must give notice3 of the proposed operations to Natural England, in relation to England, or the Natural Resources Body for Wales, in relation to Wales4 before permitting the carrying out of operations likely to damage any of the flora, fauna or geological or physiographical features by reason of which a site of special scientific interest5 is of special interest. This applies even if the operations would not take place on land6 included in a site of special scientific interest7.
