422. Designation of national parks in England and Wales.

Natural England, in relation to England, and the Natural Resources Body for Wales, in relation to Wales1, may designate, by order to be confirmed by the Secretary of State or the Welsh Ministers2, those extensive tracts of country in relation to which, by reason of their natural beauty3 and the opportunities they afford for open-air recreation4, it appears to Natural England or the Natural Resources Body for Wales to be especially desirable to take the necessary measures to ensure the conservation and enhancement of natural beauty5, wildlife and cultural heritage and to promote opportunities for the understanding and enjoyment
