The statutory definition, as set out in the Commons Registration Act 1965, 1of a town or village green is:
(1) land2 which has been allotted by or under any Act for the exercise or recreation3 of the inhabitants of any locality4 (often referred to as a 'class (a) green'5);
(2) land on which the inhabitants of any locality have a customary right to indulge in lawful sports and pastimes6 (often referred to as a 'class (b) green'7); or
(3) land on which for not less than 20 years a significant number of the inhabitants of any locality, or of
