The following applies where a notification1, specifying that an area of land2 is of special interest by reason of its flora, fauna, or geographical or physiographical features, is in force in relation to land which is or forms part of a European site3. The appropriate nature conservation body4 may, for the purpose of securing compliance with the requirements of the Habitats Directive and the new Wild Birds Directive5, at any time vary the notification with respect to:
(1) the flora, fauna or geological or physiographical features by reason of which the land is of special interest; or
