All articles which immediately before 1 July 19731 were the property of the trustees of the British Museum2 and (1) formed part of the collections in the museum's Department of Printed Books, Department of Manuscripts and Department of Oriental Printed Books and Manuscripts3; or (2) were in normal use in those departments for the purposes of the collections, or of their storage or management, or of the administration of the department4, ceased on that day to be property of the trustees and became property of the British Library Board5.
