The Secretary of State1 may defray out of money provided by Parliament2 any expenses which, with Treasury consent, he may incur in carrying on or supporting scientific research or the dissemination of the results of scientific research3, in furthering the practical application of the results of scientific research4, and in making payments in respect of remuneration, allowances or pension benefits payable to or in respect of members of any advisory body established for the purposes of assisting him in matters connected with scientific research5.
