Subject to the provisions of the British Museum Act 1963, it is the duty of the trustees of the British Museum1 and of the Natural History trustees2 to keep the objects comprised in the collections of the British Museum and the Natural History Museum within the authorised repositories of the museums3, except in so far as they may consider it expedient to remove them temporarily for any purpose connected with the administration of the museums and the care of their collections4.
