The governing body of any institution to which the Literary and Scientific Institutions Act 1854 applies1 is the council, directors, committee or other body to whom, by Act of Parliament, charter or the rules and regulations of the institution, the management of its affairs is entrusted2. If on the establishment of the institution no such body was constituted, the members3 may, upon due notice, create a governing body to act for the institution4.
