So far as practicable, and subject to the provisions of the National Heritage Act 1983, the Board of Trustees of the Victoria and Albert Museum1 must:
(1) care for, preserve and add to the objects in its collections2;
(2) secure that the objects are exhibited to the public3;
(3) secure that the objects are available to persons4 seeking to inspect them in connection with study or research5; and
(4) generally promote the public's enjoyment and understanding of art, craft and design, both by means of the board's collections and by such other means as the board considers appropriate6.
