There is a Director of the British Museum and a Director of the Natural History Museum, who must be persons appointed respectively by the trustees of the British Museum1 and the Natural History trustees2 with the approval of the Prime Minister3, and who hold office on such terms and subject to such conditions as the Secretary of State4 may direct5. They are responsible to the trustees for the care of all property in their possession and for the general administration of the museum
