The Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England ('the Commission')1 may from time to time by a designation order2 designate as an area of archaeological importance3 any area in Greater London4 which appears to it to merit treatment as such for the purposes of the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 19795. Before making a designation order the Commission must consult6 any local authority concerned7, and publish notice of its proposal to make the order8.
