In the absence of special direction, the account taken against a mortgagee in possession is a continuous debtor and creditor account1. The mortgagee is debited with all sums which he has received or which he is to be treated as having received2 by virtue of the mortgage, whether rents and profits, or accidental payments, such as proceeds of sale3; and he is credited with the principal money, with interest accruing due from time to time4, and with costs, charges and expenses
