The Doncaster Area Drainage Acts 1929 and 1933 imposed obligations on mine owners1 to establish and maintain funds for the maintenance of drainage works constructed under the Acts, and to undertake certain works and liabilities consequent on the subsidence of land in the neighbourhood of the River Don by mining operations. In 1947 an Order in Council2 was made discharging any right conferred or obligation imposed by these Acts on mine owners working or proposing to work minerals under land situated within the Doncaster Drainage District3 or on the Catchment Board of the River Ouse (Yorks) Catchment Area4 or
