The Barmote Courts of Wirksworth and adjacent liberties are similar to those of High Peak1. They also are regulated by statute2, and are courts of record3. The jurisdiction over the King's Field in the Wapentake of Wirksworth is vested in the Wirksworth Barmote Court, and separate courts exist for five adjacent manors or liberties in private ownership4. The steward for the Wirksworth Barmote Court is appointed by the Crown5 and the stewards for the private liberties are appointed by the persons entitled to the first estate of freehold in the mineral duties payable in the appropriate liberty
