The Great Barmote1 Courts and the Small Barmote Courts of High Peak are ancient courts2 with jurisdiction relating to mining rights and civil pleas relating to those rights in the liberties of the King's Field3 and other parts of the Hundred of High Peak in Derbyshire where Her Majesty is entitled to mineral duties4.
The courts are regulated by statute5, and are courts of record6. The judge is the steward (who is appointed by the Crown7) or the deputy steward8. The officers of the courts are the barmaster and deputy barmasters9; and there is also a grand jury. Two Great
