The procedure for making a compulsory rights order1 by the Coal Authority2 was similar to that to be followed by a local authority making a compulsory purchase order in accordance with the standard authorisation procedure3. The Lands Clauses Acts and the Compulsory Purchase Act 19654 do not apply to the compulsory acquisition of rights by virtue of a compulsory rights order, or to the taking or retention of possession of land in the exercise of such rights5.
