607. Ownership of mines and the surface.

The Gloucestershire customs are exercisable in that part of the county lying to the west of the Severn known as the Hundred of St Briavels1, which includes the Forest of Dean2 and certain other districts3.

The surface of the Forest of Dean, with the exception of certain legalised encroachments4, belongs to the Crown5, and the surface of the remainder of the hundred belongs partly to the Crown and partly to private owners
