556. Operator's duties in relation to further geotechnical assessment of excavations and tips which are a significant hazard.

Where the conclusion recorded by a geotechnical specialist1 as to the safety and stability of the proposed or existing excavation2 or tip3 being assessed4 following a geotechnical assessment5 is that the excavation or tip represents a significant hazard6 by way of instability or movement, the operator7 of a quarry8 must ensure9 that the excavation or tip is subject to a further geotechnical assessment at least every two years10. Such excavations and tips are known as 'notifiable excavations' and 'notifiable tips' respectively11
