After being informed by the appropriate drainage authority1 of the remedial measures2 that the responsible person3 is required to carry out, the responsible person must, as soon as reasonably practicable in the circumstances, give notice in writing to that authority stating that he has elected either to carry out such measures himself or to make a payment4 to the authority5.
