Where a local social services authority1 is the guardian2 or nearest relative3 of a mentally disordered person4, and that person is admitted to a hospital5, independent hospital6 or care home7 in England8 and Wales9, whether for treatment for mental disorder or otherwise, the authority is required to arrange for visits to be made to the patient10 and to take such steps as would be expected to be taken by his parents11.
