The consent of a patient1 to whom Part 4 of the Mental Health Act 19832 applies3 is not required for any medical treatment4 given to him for the mental disorder5 from which he is suffering, not being one of the specific treatments requiring consent and/or a second opinion under the Act6, provided that the treatment is given by or under the direction of the approved clinician in charge of the treatment7.
