Where a patient1 is admitted to hospital2 in pursuance of an application3 made under Part 2 of the Mental Health Act 19834 by his nearest relative5, the managers6 of the hospital must as soon as practicable give notice of that fact to the local social services authority7 for the area in which the patient resided immediately before his admission; and that authority must arrange for an approved mental health professional8 to interview the patient and provide the managers with a report on his social circumstances9
