The medical recommendations required1 for the admission of a patient2 to hospital3 under the Mental Health Act 19834 or for a guardianship application must be signed on or before the date of the application which they support5. They must be given by medical practitioners who have personally examined6 the patient either together or separately, but in the latter case not more than five days may elapse between the days on which the separate examinations take place7. The application itself will be effective8 for a period of 14 days beginning with the date on which the patient was last examined
