If the Secretary of State1 is satisfied by the same reports as are required in the case of persons serving sentences of imprisonment2, that a person is suffering from mental disorder3 of a nature or degree which makes it appropriate for him to be detained in a hospital4 for medical treatment5, he is in urgent need of such treatment6 and appropriate medical treatment is available for him7, the Secretary of State has the same power of giving a transfer direction8 as if he were a person serving such a sentence9.
