The primary care trust or local health board1 and the local social services authority2 have a duty3 to provide, in co-operation with the relevant voluntary agencies, aftercare services4 for certain detained patients who cease to be detained and then leave hospital5. Such duty continues until such time as those authorities are satisfied that the person concerned is no longer in need of such services, except in the case of a community patient who remains such a patient6.
