Where a patient1 is liable to be detained for treatment2, it is the duty of the responsible clinician3, within the period of two months ending on the day on which the patient would cease to be so liable in default of the renewal of the authority for his detention4, to examine the patient and, if certain conditions are fulfilled, to furnish a report to the managers5.
