For the purposes of the statutory provisions relating to compulsory admission to hospital and reception into guardianship1, a 'relative' of a patient2 means any of the following: (1) husband or wife or civil partner3; (2) son or daughter; (3) father or mother; (5) brother or sister; (6) grandparent; (7) grandchild; (8) uncle or aunt; (9) nephew or niece4; and (10) a person other than a relative, with whom the patient ordinarily resides (or, if the patient is an in-patient in hospital, last ordinarily resided before admittance) and with whom he has or had been ordinarily residing for a period
