The responsible clinician1 may by order in writing discharge a detained patient2 from hospital subject to his being liable to recall3. Such an order is known as a community treatment order4. The responsible clinician may not make a community treatment order unless in his opinion, the relevant criteria are met and an approved mental health professional5 states in writing that he agrees with that opinion and that it is appropriate to make the order6.
The relevant criteria are that:
(1) the patient is suffering from mental disorder7 of a nature or degree which makes it appropriate for him to receive
