Except for hospitals providing high security psychiatric services1, hospitals and specialist services for the treatment of mental disorder are administered on behalf of the appropriate national authority2, subject to its directions and to regulations, by health authorities, strategic health authorities3, special health authorities4, primary care trusts5 and local health boards6 and by NHS foundation trusts7.
