877.     Guardianship orders.

Where a person is convicted before the Crown Court1 or a magistrates' court2 of an offence in respect of which the court would have power to make a hospital order3, the court may make an order placing him under the guardianship of a local social services authority4 or of a specified person approved by such authority5, if the following conditions are fulfilled:


    (1)     the court is satisfied on the written or oral evidence of two registered medical practitioners6 that the offender is suffering from mental disorder7 and that, in the case of an
