877. Guardianship orders.

Where a person is convicted before the Crown Court1 or a magistrates' court2 of an offence in respect of which the court would have power to make a hospital order3, the court may make an order placing him under the guardianship of a local social services authority4 or of a specified person approved by such authority5, if the following conditions are fulfilled:


    (1)     the court is satisfied on the written or oral evidence of two registered medical practitioners6 that the offender is suffering from mental disorder7 and that, in the case of an offender who has attained the age
